Pink flowers and Pink Floyd 6

Pink Think: “I’m not a real movie star. I’ve still got the same wife I started out with twenty-eight years ago.” – Will Rogers

Yesterday, Drew and I celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary. He had the day off; we went to lunch and drove around aimlessly to Lynnard Skynnard.

He gave me a bouquet of pink flowers (isn’t it beautiful?)

and I gave him a “Pink Floyd” CD.

We got talking about whether or not 16 years ago, when we got married, I thought my life would be how it is right now. I told him no. I never imagined I would, for instance:

1. own horses
2. travel as much as we do to different conferences
3. live in a small town that doesn’t have a mall
4. be a stay-at-home mom (I was very career-minded in college)
5. write novels and have my husband’s support
6. listen to country music that my husband likes

I knew we would have dogs. That, I expected.

In fact, when Drew asked my dad for my hand in marriage (by phone, long-distance), my dad tried to talk me out of it because of the “dogs.” He warned me, “He’s just going to make you clean his dog kennels.” (He doesn’t actually make me clean his work’s dog kennels, although we have two dogs I clean up after at home.)

We’ve had our ups and downs, but when it’s all said and done, I am so thankful I married Drew. He’s a wonderful husband and an awesome father. It’s been a great 16 years!
